Since the branches of the Colombian Red Cross are administratively and financially autonomous bodies, they need to generate diverse sources of income to strengthen their financial capacity and ensure the full implementation of their organizational and mission-related activities in accordance with the Fundamental Principles that bind the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Sustainability, understood as the ability to generate revenue, through the identification, promotion, creation, and strengthening of resource sources appropriate to the local context, enables the development of coordination activities between the national and regional branches to provide guidance and support in the formulation and implementation of new business units. These units, in addition to contributing financially to the regional branch, are often created to address the basic needs of highly vulnerable communities.
