We focus on preventing and mitigating the humanitarian impact of armed conflict and violence. Our work seeks to address the causes of vulnerability and strengthen institutional response capacity.
The Peacebuilding and Institutional Doctrine team seeks to contribute to the prevention and mitigation of the impact and humanitarian consequences of armed conflict and other situations of violence and vulnerability, and to address their causes, strengthening the National Society’s capacity to respond in these contexts, in accordance with the Doctrine of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the promotion and application of human rights, international humanitarian law, and conflict transformation mechanisms.
Mission program focused on the knowledge and application of Institutional Doctrine, human rights, and international humanitarian law (IHL).
A tool that guides the actions and measures that the National Society must take in order to prepare for and respond to challenges and priorities in specific circumstances, thereby reducing and mitigating the risks it must face in sensitive and insecure contexts, as well as gaining the trust and acceptance of people and communities with humanitarian needs. It is managed in coordination with the Disaster Risk Management team.

Mission line that seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Colombian Red Cross to address humanitarian needs arising from urban violence, implementing a strategy to reduce and mitigate its consequences through education, promotion of rights, respect for international humanitarian law, and peacebuilding. Beneficiaries include Branches, Municipal Units, Support Groups, and volunteers of the Colombian Red Cross; youth and educators in the Criminal Responsibility System (SRPA); educational communities; networks, community-based association groups; and victims of armed conflict violence and urban violence.
To contribute to the integration of the gender and diversity approach into the organizational structure and programmatic management of the Colombian Red Cross National Society.
Beneficiaries:
Employees and volunteers at National Headquarters, Branches, Municipal Units, and Support Groups.
Actions and/or Services:
Formulation and implementation of the Gender and Diversity Policy of the Colombian Red Cross National Society, strengthening knowledge about gender and diversity to integrate the approach into humanitarian activities, and providing tools to incorporate the gender and diversity approach into Colombian Red Cross projects.
Where we are:
Advisory, guidance, and training on the gender and diversity approach are provided to technical teams and volunteers implementing institutional projects. The gender and diversity approach is also promoted across all mission areas of the National Society.
To strengthen the capacity of the Colombian Red Cross to intervene in urban violence contexts, implementing a national strategy that promotes processes for the prevention and mitigation of the consequences and humanitarian impact resulting from these forms of violence, through education, promotion of rights, respect for IHL, strengthening of social fabric, and peacebuilding.
Beneficiaries:
Branches, Municipal Units, Support Groups, and volunteers of the Colombian Red Cross; vulnerable communities; youth and educators in the Criminal Responsibility System (SRPA); educational communities; networks, community-based association groups; and victims of armed conflict violence and urban violence.
Actions and/or Services:
Implement the violence prevention strategy of the Colombian Red Cross, provide technical advice to Branches, Municipal Units, and Support Groups, disseminate methodological and conceptual tools, improve the capacities of communities and institutions to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of urban violence, strengthen institutional mechanisms to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of urban violence in recruitment and/or recidivism, and strengthen the capacities of communities and institutions to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of urban violence.
Where we are:
Based on context analysis and institutional capacities, Branches, Municipal Units, Support Groups, and/or communities are prioritized each year to carry out interventions. In 2019, we are conducting activities in 9 cities across 7 departments: Barranquilla (Atlántico), Cartagena (Bolívar), Cúcuta (Norte de Santander), Medellín (Antioquia), Cali and Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca), Tumaco (Nariño), and Bogotá.
